ALL HALLOW'S EVE

All Hallow's Eve--tonight the veil thins between our worlds...

GHOST

the door to my house
is painted blue,

a witchy woman hangs
on my kitchen wall,

a crucifix graces the hall--
still, he got in

that ghost
I tried so hard to keep out

the one always
asking forgiveness.

AUTUMN SONNET

I asked you, once, what happens
when dreaming comes to an end.
When light that falls through the trees
no longer seems able to tend
to those dreams into which we leapt
long ago, now grown cold
and autumn closing in,
brash, blustery and bold
and wind stripping leaves bare
from trees that once sheltered us,
life and death beneath my feet
now become just dust.
O my heart, help me remember
in every cold fire remains an ember.

LONESOME THINGS

new photo, old poem

LONESOME THINGS, MAYBE

a house
unlighted
but for one window

old sheet music
unplayed
since 1942

one dog
unquiet
barking at the hidden moon

last sailing boats
unoccupied
moored in the harbor

autumn rain
unwelcome
blackening the road

wet red leaves
unappreciated
except in old love songs

HAD TO DO IT

I know, you've seen a thousand photos already of autumn...but forgive me, please, I just had to add another one...and a little poem.  Not sure I'm ready to return to Mimi's yet, but maybe...anyway, thanks for looking in again...

FIRST EVENING OF AUTUMN

how we put a squash
in the oven to roast

along with pork and apples
then walked hand in hand

beside the bay's teal waters
how the waves sang

and a north country
wind blew brisk

how the season changed
with one swoop

of Basho's crow
through brittle leaves
